Six months ago I would have come across this word (like I did today at www. hgtv.com) and would have had no clue how to pronounce it let alone what it means. Thanks to my friend Christina (from Oklahoma) I am now in the know.
For those of you who aren't (I'd never heard the word growing up, apparently it's a midwest thing) here is what the dictionary says:

A cheap showy trinket.
aka: knick knack
