a man full of surprises

Josh was just full of surprises yesterday. He walked in the door from work with a huge Nemo Fish Balloon for the boys and a package of chocolates for me. The boys were delighted to say the least. Sam kept going "ish, ish" and wanted to touch it while Elijah was hitting it all over the house.

After our homemade dinner of shrimp and asparagus pasta (see my recipe blog for the recipe...mmm yummy), Josh pulled out a little box for me. It was a total surprise- something he doesn't pull off very often. he got me a beautiful necklace I had admired in a catalog. Talk about a melt my heart moment! He also printed off and gave me 14 reasons he loves me for the 14 days of Valentine's. Let's just say I love that man! He is amazing!

Happy Valentine's Day

My siblings, and probably my cousins, might recognize these valentine's from off the box of little debbies cakes. My grandma would always mail them to us for valentines day off of her boxes. To this day, Little Debbie cakes always make me think of her.


I had to buy a box just for the valentines and i am posting them too all of you.

Teachings of the Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith

It has been over four years since I had a calling that allowed for me to be in Relief Society regularly during the Sunday meeting block. I have set goals to read along with the lessons they are giving from the Teachings of the Living Prophets series, but have failed miserably in the past on my own.

Today I read the article in the January Ensign introducing the new manual for the year on the teachings of Joseph Smith and it got me really excited about the new material. Lately my brain has been processing things as related to a blog and the blogging community. Since I will be in Primary and not in Relief Society, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing their insights or notes about the Joseph Smith lessons from the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month (whether you are in Relief Society yourself or not) here on my blog. I think this might help give me the motivation (and the deadline) to get the reading done myself and open up some gospel topics for comments.

I believe for this Sunday we are doing lesson 4: The Book of Mormon: Keystone of Our Religion. ( please correct me if I am wrong. my ward is doing ward conference this coming week and I don't know if this will affect my ward's schedule or not-can you tell I'm in the dark?)

I will post soon about the lesson (after I have read it). I'm planning on posting my favorite quote or something and would welcome any comments, insights, quotes etc. to that post.

I love this gospel and I am excited to learn from the words of our first latter-day prophet, Joseph Smith. I hope we can learn together!

super grocery sales

if you have a Safeway grocery store in your area this week is the week (and i think next week too) to check them out! they are doing a Saving Rally promotion where if you buy 25 flagged items you get a coupon for $20 off your next purchase (the are also doing buy 15-24 items get $10 and buy 10-14 items get $5). Apparently there are thousands of items to choose from. I havent' been to the store yet, but have looked around online and it looks like there are some great stocking up opprotunities to be had. Some include rice-a-roni and pasta-roni 1o/$10; with the promotion you could get 25 boxes for essentially $5 or $.20 each. Basically it's like taking $.80 off each item, and that is before you factor in any additional clipped coupons. I think the same thing works for DelMonte Tomatos on sale 1o/$10 also. I'll let you know if i find anything else when I actually make it to the store.

washer still not working...

apparently they didn't register the work order that I called in last Thursday for our washing machine. When Josh called the repair man monday to try and get an estimate on what could be wrong and how much it might cost they didn't have us on the schedule. Now I have to wait until FRIDAY for them to come.

I am sooooo, SOOO thankful that I was caught up on my laundry when the washer broke-a rare occurance and a miracle indeed. We have managed to make it a week without doing laundry (it is sure starting to pile up though and we are digging in the back of the closets). It is yet to be seen if we will make it to Friday, I'm thinking I will have to do a load of whites and my nightmare will become a reality unless I can convince Josh to do it for me. (have i mentioned i love that boy!) My mom stopped herself from complaining about doing laundry to me over the phone the other day... what would i give to be able to do laundry today at home!

So keep your fingers crossed for us that it will be a quick and easy repair, like they think it will be, and won't cost us too much (cause the machine sure isn't worth it).

Review: Citadels

I gave josh this game for his birthday last week. It's a card game for 2-7 players that i had never heard of before but the reviews were good. Josh and I played it a few days ago and enjoyed it. There is a lot of strategy that we haven't figured out yet, but the rules to the game are not complex. Last night we played it four-player with some friends and understood it and enjoyed it even more. We liked that there are multiple ways to go about winning, the rounds are different every time, and there isn't a huge luck factor (though it is there).

Overall, i'm excited to play it again and forsee it being a regular with us. I would recomend this game to anyone.

Post update/corrections

well, it's been a crazy end of the week with not much time for blogging (i am horribly behind on my valentines day, but i guess so is josh so i don't feel totally horrible). anyway, there are some updates/corrections to my past entries that have come up.

Sammy is sick. apparently RSV is going around the ward. I'm hoping that is not what we have. we got out wednesday for a play date and most of the kids (out of nine) were not in church yesterday, including Sammy. He mostly just hasn't been acting himself, being extra clinggy and droopy eyed. He does have a cough that sounds nasty but it is not very frequent. So here's hoping it will pass quickly and that the rest of us will not get it.

Another thing--Sam is now walking most of the time over crawling. He's pretty much walking everywhere with his cute little beginner walking stance. He has discovered that he can now carry his blanket around with him. he slings it over his shoulder when he walks so he doesn't trip on it. He's our own cute little Linus. He has become quite attatched to his blanket lately, keeping close tabs on it. which leads to the last update i have...


My washer is currently broken. Apparently i jinxed it last week with my blog on things i would rather not live without. (my crocs are still holding up and i do have a few back up pairs if i did happen to jinx them too.) Sam's blanket was in dire need of a washing and Sam has been skipping his morning nap lately so i on thursday morning i decided to wash it. Unfortunatly i let Sam in on the plan and he was not happy at all-- very distraught in fact. So we were peaking at the blanket while it was in the washer during the spin cycle, but when we put the lid down again it only made a clicking sound and wouldn't start up again, big UH OH. So now, not only did i have a broken washer but a sopping wet blanket with a crying baby wanting it. oh the drama of my life!


Poor Sam was walking around lost the entire time his blanket was in the dryer. He would start crying and walk to the washer. It was the most heart wrenching thing and of course i had to get a picture of it... unfortunatly he wasn't very cooperative, he just wanted to cuddle hence the really close pictures.










So here's hopping that the washer will get fixed tomorrow when the repairman comes and that it won't cost us an arm and a leg!

6th Day of Valentines

I spent my free time today working on family history and trying to get all of my records (from multiple databases) up to date and merged together and on the new familysearch website. It's a long process because I am double checking stuff and trying to complete entire families. Anyway, the house has gotten a little out of control because of it.

My post for valentines today is that I love that Josh supports me in my hobbies and projects. He doesn't mind when I get the crazy need to go buy yarn and start a new project, or buy more scrapbook supplies and then leave him to watch the kids while I go to a friends' house to scrapbook with the girls. He doesn't come home and freak out when the house is a mess or dinner isn't made because all my extra mental power and time has been spent on something not entirely productive. He pushes me to do things that I enjoy and I love him so much for it.

E-L-I-J-A-H

I finally got Elijah typing his name on video. He can type his name all by himself and can do mommy, daddy, and sammy with a little prompting.

the verdict is in...

it seems that Sam was teething last week. He now has three of his molars in (one is still being a straggler). I'm glad it wasn't a cold, there are some nasty things going around. He is pretty much fine now; back to being happy and getting himself into all kinds of trouble.

He is walking around more these days. He will venture off at a slow walk if he is already standing. I'd say he is walking about a third of the time. He has made it from our kitchen to my bedroom (for those few of you that have been to my house, for those that haven't it's about 40-50 Sammy steps)

while i was writing this blog, Elijah was playing ddr. I stepped in to see what Sam was doing and this is what I saw:

They are the cutest boys! they are always making me laugh. Oh, when you tell Elijah he is cute he replies emphatically "I'm not cute... I'm three!"

Josh is an amazing daddy. I love him so much for it. He has always been good with my little sisters who are all over him, and when we were dating it was such an attractive thing. Now he is the best dad to our two boys. I get so much joy from watching them play together and watching josh with them. It shows that he loves them and it makes me so happy!

4th day of Valentines (late again) and DDR

Josh and i were up til 11:30 last night playing ddr on our wii. It was a blast! because we were up so late dancing our hearts out, i didn't get my 4th day of valentines posted, but we were doing what i was planning on posting--playing games together.
Josh and i are rather competitive and can get kind-of mean when we play games against each other... in a good way. I like that we are able to be competitive, and argue and sometimes wack each other, while playing games and then go back to being the best of friends when its done. (our friends must find us amusing to watch, a side of me comes out that you don't see any other time--poor josh!) I love that we can always pull out a game and have fun together as friends (and enemys). It is our most common date night together.

Review on DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) for Wii: It is great fun! i never tried ddr on the playstation (there were always too many people around to watch my stupidity) but my parents got ddr for wii for christmas and i decided to try it out. I was hooked! So josh and i decided to get one for ourselves with some of our christmas money. I am far from coordinated, very lacking in that area, but i am getting better at the game and actually passing stuff off. Last night i went to bed with my legs aching like i had walked miles. overall i give this game two thumbs up. It gets you moving (i was acutally breaking a sweat) and just plain having fun--even with just one mat between the two of us.

one fish, two fish... old fish, NEW FISH-ys

today for FHE we talked about being thankful for fish. we did a little lesson and told the story of Jonah and the whale. we also went to the pet store and bought two new fish for our lonely fish tank. Elijah was rather undecisive. on the drive down there he said he wanted a blue fish; after a while of looking at the tanks (and the birds, lizards, and hampsters) he decided he wanted one of the sickly looking 12 cent goldfish. Eventually we settled for a white(silver) fish and a black fish, both of them Mollys. On the drive home we asked elijah what he wanted to name them. The first thing that came out of his mouth was "Daniel" (a very hightly favored name by elijah, he has a dragon by the same name) then he thought a minute and decided to name the second one "Mat". so the black one is named Mat and the silver/white one is named Daniel. the silver one has iridescent stripes on his tail and fins, he's rather pretty. Now Sam acutally has something to watch when he wants to look in the fish tank. Hopefully Bob will do well with the new additions.

3rd day of Valentines (yesterday)

Josh and I complement each other really well. He has strengths in the areas that i am lacking and i guess i do the same for him. It is one reason why i really love that man. He will do things that I hate doing i.e. empty the dishwasher, put the laundry away, clean the tub and toilet bowl. He eats my tomatos off my burgers and sandwiches. He runs amuck with the boys while i get a few moments peace. He'll change the dirty diapers, help put the boys to bed, and step up when elijah isn't listening to me. He is less serious and knows when and how to have fun. He is spontaneous and goofy. I learn so much about how to be better by being with him.

We thank Thee, oh God, for a Prophet!

on sunday, January 27th, our dear prophet, Gordon B. Hinkley, passed away. This is another time when i don't have many words to write because the emotions run deep but i could not leave total silence. This man has left too great of an impact for me to do that. I will miss him dearly and pray that I might honor his memory.

2nd day of Valentines/Happy Birthday Josh

Happy Birthday Josh!

Well, today was a two for one deal with valentines and josh's birthday. I made him a red velvet birthday cake with butter cream frosting (thanks to better homes and gardens for the recipe). it turned out quite nice and yummy, i was rather proud of myself.

One thing i love about josh is that he is always willing and excited to experiment in the kitchen. I love cooking with him and i really love when he just takes over the kitchen (despite the mess that is sure to happen). It's just cute to see him so proud of what he makes. It gives me encouragement to try something new and elaborate more often than i normally would.

Josh and i had the chance to go out to dinner for his birthday. Our friends watched the boys while we went to a little Thai food restuarant in town called Thai Kitchen. It is the tiniest of places with really really good food! we really like their curry and all their veggie dishes are great too. we tried a new one tonight with wide noodles-sweet and spicy. If you are ever in town we wil have to take you there! mmmm.... yummy!

After we ate we came home and had cake with the boys and our friends. Of course we had to sing and we pulled out the elmo birthday hats from the boys' birthday's in November. Elijah decided he wanted two hats and then jon jumped on and went all out with the hats.

5 things I would rather not live without

i was thinking today, as i got out of the shower and used my bath sheet to dry myself off, of the things that i would rather not live without...

1. my HUGE bath sheet/towel-- Have you ever tried one? once you have, the little normal towels just don't cut it.

2. my cell phone-- before my cell phone days i was a number guru. i could remember everyones phone number at will, but now i'm completely dependent on my cell phone even just to get ahold of my mother.

3. PBS station-- it is because of this wonderful station that i am able to take a shower every day in peace!

4. washer and dryer (in the apartment)-- it would be a nightmare if i didn't have these in my apartment. the nightmare would include me dragging two kids and a bucket load of laundry down to the laundry mat then back again and again. i shudder at the thought.


5. my CROCS-- this one should probably be number 1 on my list. I live in these shoes-literally. I put them on when i wake up and don't take them off until i go to bed (well, i don't bathe or exercize in them but you get the picture). they are the most wonderful things! mind you i will admidt that they are not the most beautiful shoes, especially mine that are well worn, but man do they make my feet happy (and my lower back).

Loves Beginning

I has been nearly five years since we got married. I love Josh more today than the day I married him. It's an amazing thing, because I know that I loved him with all my heart back then. Everyday he becomes more and more a part of me and somehow, I'm not sure how, our love grows and deepens.
